BIO:
HI!
I am a 3rd year massey university student with a passion for combining tech with art. i love creating audio-visual simulations and artworks. i always strive to push the boundaries of art by creating pieces that make the audience question a certain topic. in this case that topic is a.i. , i enjoy using a.i. as a tool. in this installation i decided to play on the current fears many people have about it's potential powers while simultaneously giving people the chance to see how it can be used as a tool to enhance the work we do.
Artist Statement:
The goal of this project is to immerse participants in a speculative future shaped by artificial intelligence, offering both a reflection on its potential benefits and a critique of the concerns it raises. At the core of the installation is an interactive A.I.-driven face that engages with participants' questions, highlighting the ways in which A.I. could become a guiding force in society.
Change, especially at the scale that A.I. promises, is often met with unease. This project explores those anxieties, particularly the fear that A.I. will replace human jobs, as evidenced by a 2022 McKinsey study showing that A.I. use in businesses has doubled since 2017. While A.I. does have the potential to automate tasks, history has shown that technological advancements often lead to the creation of new, more rewarding jobs. This installation challenges participants to see A.I. as a tool that enhances, rather than replaces, human creativity.
A second concern addressed is the fear that A.I. threatens the authenticity of art. By utilising technologies like Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), A.I. mimics the creative process, drawing on references to generate new content. This method is not unlike the way humans create art—by drawing inspiration from their environment. The project invites participants to reconsider the role of A.I. in artistic creation and see how it could broaden the future of the creative arts.
By blending real-time generative art with A.I., this installation allows participants to confront their feelings about A.I. and imagine the possibilities it brings to the future of both technology and creativity.
